About

Dr Alex Asamoah Ankomah is a clinician and global health researcher specialising in the control and elimination of infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries. He holds dual master’s degrees in public health and Infectious Diseases Intelligence from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and trained in medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.

Alex brings a multidisciplinary background spanning clinical medicine, neglected tropical disease research, public health, and global health R&D financing. His research interest includes strengthening health systems in resource-constrained settings. Through data-driven evidence generation and stakeholder engagement, his work focuses on sustainable financing for neglected and emerging infectious diseases research and development to improve equitable access to essential medical products in LMICs. At Impact Global Health, Alex contributes to global analyses of R&D investment and product pipelines, supports impact evaluation of global health innovation, and plays a key role in the development of the 100 Days Mission Scorecard to assess global readiness for rapid diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccine development.

Prior to joining IGH, he worked in clinical settings in rural and urban Ghana, and has supported the NSW COVID-19 response as a volunteer contact tracer with the South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit.
